Gilt-decorated cloth; top edge gilt; extremities slightly rubbed and bumped; spine lightly sunned; front edge slightly foxed; still an excellent copy. With the ownership signature of Sir John Langdon Bonython on the flyleaf. Sir John (1848 to 1939), is described as an 'editor, newspaper proprietor and philanthropist'. The newspaper was 'The Advertiser', and he was editor for 45 years. 'Knighted in 1898, he and John Fairfax (of the Sydney Morning Herald) became the first Australian newspaper editors to be so honoured ... most found him more than generous'.
