Kitti's Hognosed Bat Craseonycteris thongylongyai. Original artwork from Astonishing animals. Schouten, Peter.
BAC26169 2003. Watercolour and gouache on Arches paper, 255 x 185mm, mounted but not framed, signed and dated by artist.<P> Page 125 (Craseonycteris thongylongyai) This bat is the smallest in the world-around the size of a large bumblebee - as well as being the world's smallest mammal. It has no tail and, as its common name suggests, its muzzle resembles the snout of a pig. Found only near the town of Sai Yoke in western Thailand, its home was once forested but today the region's forests have been completely stripped for farming. Groups of ten to fifteen of these tiny bats can be seen resting high on the limestone walls of caves. They roost well separated from each other, not clumped together as many bats do. They become active at dusk and can be seen circling above clumps of bamboo, on the lookout for insects small enough to glean from the leaves. $600.00AUD Click here to order or message the dealer
