He travelled in the past, producing historic adventures such as 'Kidnapped'; he travelled in his imagination, creating 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde'; and he travelled in real life, on a donkey in the Cevennes, and across the Pacific to Samoa where he died in 1894.
