House Party

Rowans, Virginia (pseudonym of Edward Everett Tanner III) (Patrick Dennis)

13321 T.Y. Crowell & Co. New York, NY, U.S.A. 1954 Third Printing, June 1957 Hard Cover Good Black textured, treated paper on boards. Volume has much wear to all edges and corners. Now in protective wrap. Mr. Tanner was also known as Patrick Dennis the writer of Auntie Mame, and here is the introduction by Patrick Dennis to this edition of House Party, which is very entertaining in itself: "My favorite of all Virginia Rowans' novels. It has many faults, its too long, it is densely overpopulated, and the plot is straight out of an old Shubert musical. On the other hand, House Party has a lot of virtues, too. It's witty and cheery, it has a happy ending. Although it's not salacious enough for the paperback market, it undoubtedly contains enough racy material to satisfy the armchair devotee of cut-rate pornography. Too naughty for the household magazine crowd, I don't believe there is anything in the book that would seriously impair the morals of a ten-year old child. All in all, House Party is a very pleasant little book. As I said before, it still remains my favorite of all Virginia Rowans' novels. In fact I wish I'd written it myself $75.00USD
