Literary criticism Literary criticism is a discussion of literature, including description, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of literary works. Literary criticism deals with different dimensions of literature as a collection of texts through which authors evoke more or less fictitious worlds for the imagination of readers. We can look at any work of literature by paying special attention to one of several aspects: its language and structure; its intended purpose; the information and worldview it conveys; or its effect on an audience. Because works of literature can be studied long after their first publication, awareness of historical and theoretical context contributes to our understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of them. Historical research relates a work to the life and times of its author. Attention to the nature, functions, and categories of literature provides a theoretical framework joining a past text to the experience of present readers. Twentieth century critical approaches include formalism, structuralism, new criticism, Marxism, Freudian approaches, and feminism.

What we've attempted to accomplish here is to collect book reviews from major online media sites that are available without having to register at a site or pay to read them. We're not interested in just a short blurb or small section of someone else's review. We try to find full-length reviews of books that help the reader gather the information they seek to determine if the book is worth their money or not. We prefer reviews that deal with each book at length, but sometimes settle for smaller reviews when lengthier ones are unavailable. For each book listed here, we try to find at least three reviews on different web sites. This way you can read as many of them as you'd like before deciding on a book. We also write our own book reviews. The drop down menu above will help you find those reviews. An editor's pick logo is also applied to any book we've read and enjoyed. The lack of that logo for any book usually just means we haven't read the book. We've organized the site into a few different sections. There are five principal pages, typically used for browsing through recent additions. Think of these pages like wandering through a bookstore to see what's new. The most recent fiction is added to this page, and as new ones are added, the books from the bottom of this page are moved to Page 2. We also add listings for fiction released in the UK, mysteries and thrillers, and nonfiction. Every book added to these pages also gets an individual page where all the reviews can be found (the principal pages list only the first five). Just remember when searching that each genre (Literature, Romance, Mystery, etc.) has its own unique search engine, so be sure you're in the genre you want to do the searching in. Our site is unique in that our reviews are more useful than those of most other sites. Usually people will write variations of "Book good!" or "Characters good!" which is useless to readers who do not know what the reviewer's taste is. Our reviews will give you the general outline of the plot. Some would say this is "giving too much away"; we say this is giving you some idea of what the book is all about. It is our unique approach of helping you find just the book you were looking for, which drives over a million and a half visitors a month to our site.
